DAV Model School, Sector-15, Chandigarh is the manifestation of a dream of the DAV college Managing Committee, New Delhi. The school , started on 14th April 1966 on a two acre piece of land, initially had only 40 students on its roll. Mrs Kamlesh Thareja, the founder principal, single handedly nurtured the institution and led the effort to build this prestigious school. With the school going an enviable reputation and a positive support from the citizens of the city, another two acres of adjoining land was purchased from the extension of school.The school started for the primary section having become successful and extremely popular was soon upgraded to the middle level. It produced meritorious students in class VIII which encouraged the authorities to further upgrade the school senior classes were introduced. Hard work coupled with sincerity of purpose resulted in the school showing excellent results in Matriculation examination and school was granted affiliation from CBSE in 1988.On the introduction of the +2 system of education , the school was amongst the first ones to start +1 and +2 classes. The aim was to give fulfill the vision of swami Dayanand. The senior secondary section was therefore dedicated to our torch bearer Swami Dayanand, To meet the pressing needs of the students, a hostel for girls was started in 1990 on the campus itself. The school commenced co-educational classes for XI-XII in the year 2004.The school is running a Certificate in Education course (C.ED.) affliated to N.C.T.E ( National Council for Teacher’s Education.) and has earned the distinction of being the first DAV institution in India to get this affiliation.At present the school has about 1500 students on its rolls, with a team of highly qualified and devoted teachers.
